Fraser Valley, August 27th 2009: Favorite local lake report
« on: August 27, 2009, 07:53:15 PM »

went fishing to my favourite local lake today with a buddy.

5 hours of fishing produced 5 bull trout, 3 rainbows and 20 brook trout.

all caught on micro green leaches in the morning and stone flies in the afternoon.

good times.

That looks like a cross between a tiger/brook.....  most of the brookies I have caught do not have a mouth like that or have dorsal markings like that...I guess when they get larger than I catch they change a bit :) ... I did a quick search to see what kind of variation in color brookies can get, lots of different varieties it seems!

This will be moved into the fish porn thread later this week.

When posting a new thread in the fishing report section, please include the location and date (notice the pattern in all the thread titles). The location does not have to be specific (eg. no lake name), but the name of the region where it is in is good enough. Thanks.

Nice healthy fish!
I would say a Brook Trout starting to show fall colours.
Tiger Trout (cross between a Brook Trout and Brown Trout) are sterile so it's definitely not a cross between a Tiger and a Brookie.
There are very few B.C. lakes with Brown Trout that could produce Tigers (some on the Island, maybe in the Kootenays?).

Note also that triploid Brookies develop spawning characteristics, especially as they get larger which would explain the jaw.

Here's a Tiger:

sorry for not following the posting rules.

here is some more information.

the lake is in the hope area and we were fishing yesterday.

i was just a little excited about the fishing trip. can't beat double digit fishing.

fyi the best day i have had on this lake is over 50 fish caught on my own, catching over 3 species and the larges just ove 24 inches.

good times.

I'd be keeping that quiet too.... double digit fish can turn into double digit anglers in no time.  I thought your original report was great... sometimes even a locale (especially with that mix of fish) is enough to blow it.

Wow a lake with fish like that in the Hope area, I just don't pay enough attention to my own back yard.
