is this because there is a low return of springs so far? and will this be in effect for the rest of the fall?

thanks for the reply Rod, but that link doesn't answer my questions....1) is the restriction on keeping Chinooks because they're not returning in decent numbers so far? 2) what is the likelihood that this restriction will be in place for the rest of the fall?

See this notice:

Chinook salmon in the Fraser River is opened until August 31st as stated. There isn't a last minute closure. The opening and closing dates are pretty typical like other years. Management measures usually kicks in during September when Interior coho salmon and steelhead are migrating. A bait ban will probably be in effect in one week from now. Further opening of retention of chinook salmon maybe announced. Fraser River summer chinook salmon return is better than average this year.

Heard from FOC tonight, Debra and chinooks are still open as there is a new notice out but I have not looked for it.
Her words were:
New notice.

Spoke to Fisheries and Oceans Canada this morning re: chinook salmon. Tidal and Non-tidal Fraser River chinook salmon opening is extended to December 31st, but adult minimum size is moved from 50cm to 62cm.

Aggasiz to Hope remains closed for salmon fishing.

Bait ban will come in effect next Tuesday (September 8th).

Complete detail will be available in a fishery notice later on today.

This is indicative of the lack of respect offered to the sportsfishermen!
Many sportsfishermen stayed home today because they thought it was closed as of the end of August. However there are sportsfishermen out there fishing right now either because they are unaware of the regulations or they are ignoring them. The whole regulation and enforcement with DFO is a joke. Somebody should be fired!!

flatlander, you mean you had the day planned even tho fishery notice said it would be closed all along?

I had accepted the closure all along (albeit earlier than prev yrs) and considered myself lucky if they open it for more opportunities.

DFO being too lazy to post a notice on time is unacceptable.  Some of us can't pick our day's off from work.
