Anyone uses a Quantum Classic 1420MGC??
« on: September 09, 2009, 12:39:40 PM »

I purchased a Quantum Classic 1420MGC, a low profile levelwind reel.
When I cast, the line guide doesn't move back and forth, but when I reel in the guide moves!
Is this normal for this kind of reel? or something is broken?

Any info is appreciated.
Thx

Can't speak for that reel as I've never used one.

However, on many smaller levelwinds such as the Calcutta 200 the line guide will not move when casting, similar to how you described.

I suspect there is nothing wrong with your reel.

don't you get your line kind of cris-cross when you rewind?
That causes the next cast a bit difficult, doesn't it?
I've been having issues with casting nicely and consistently.  I've used Ambasador and didn't have this problem before.

is that supposed to be a better system?
Anyone has difficulty casting with Quantum levelwinds? Do you have a trick to make it work smooth? (I tried to set the drag properly)

If the line guide is in the centre when you cast it will work slightly better but it is not necessary.  All smaller baitcasters operate this way.  It works better for casting smaller weights because there is less friction.
