Search and Rescue on the Vedder
« on: September 13, 2009, 11:09:20 PM »

Search and rescue had a new toy they were trying out today. Maybe it is not a new toy but I have not seen it before. It was as best as I can describe it, a jet powered inflatable (that is what it looked like). They went up river from below lickman and came back down about half an hour later. There were two in the boat and one of the fellows had a mask and maybe a snorkel on. I would geuss it was a trial run because they came back after about half an hour with the original two in the craft. Anybody else see this or have any interesting info?

More than likely the vessel you saw was the Ridge Meadows Search And Rescue hovercraft , they are the only sar group on the Fraser that have a hovercraft that would fit in the Vedder. the CCG hovercrafts are to large .

Central Fraser Valley SAR has a white hovercraft made by Neoteric. Not sure what model is, but that's probably the one seen on the vedder . Ridge Meadows has the blue one shown in the previous picture and Surrey SAR has one similar to Ridge Meadows, but a bit longer. Both RM's and Surreys are from Hovertechnics.

One other thing....they are a BLAST to drive!

It was odd at one point. There was a big rock in the middle of the run. I think he was going too fast to see it. On his way down it looked like he just noticed at the last second and he tried to swerve around it but ended up going right over it. I may have been one of the idiots still fishing because I thought it was a yahoo who felt he had the "right" to go up the river because he could. I felt I had the right to still keep fishing. I had to eat my words and inwardly apologize when I saw the search and rescue sign on the front. He could be saving my life one day.  :) Next time I will wait before I throw a stone at a glass house.
