Help the Chilliwack River on September 27th 2009
« on: September 16, 2009, 12:34:05 PM »

Most on this forum know how enjoy the fishing can be on the Chilliwack River almost year round, from fall salmon to winter steelhead. Most have also noticed the ongoing litter problem, which this heavy usage has generated over the years. On Sunday September 27th, you can do something about it to make this a good start of another enjoyable fall salmon fishing season on the Chilliwack River.

Sunday September 27th is BC Rivers Day and the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Coalition will once again be hosting its annual celebration at the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club. The celebration will include a river cleanup from 9am until noon, followed by a thank you BBQ for volunteers, draw prizes and entertainment. This event is only possible with the support of Lower Mainland anglers, who make up the biggest user group of this watershed.

Come on out, fish for salmon in the first few hours at sunrise, when fishing is usually good, then come out to the event and help us to make the river cleaner. You can then enjoy a free BBQ, talk to other Vedder anglers and swap tips before heading back out to the river for the last light bite. Those who attend from the forum, will receive a free annual FWR subscription that gets you instant access to the fishing report section, personal messaging function and access to video diaries.

Here is the event detail.

Date: Sunday September 27th 2009

Location: Chilliwack Fish and Game Club (48685 Chilliwack Lake Road). It is approximately 7km upstream from the Vedder Crossing Bridge, across the road from the Pointa Vista Restaurant.

Registration: 8:30am - 9:30am
Cleanup: 9:30am - 12:30pm
BBQ, draw prizes, entertainment: 12:30 - 2:00pm

See you at this year's BC Rivers Day celebration!

With so much interest in Vedder River fishing on the forum, I'm sure many will donate a few hours of the fishing season to help out in this annual make-over of the Vedder.

I'll be throwing in some drift fishing rods for draw prizes.

Bump. If you are coming out, post a reply so we know who we might see at the event.

Mary and I would like to attend and I will bring a truck under one condition, Chris has to give up one of his coho hot spots.  ;D

Just kidding about the hot spots Chris, you don't need to say a word if you start getting into coho I will just tail you from home one early morning. Better keep checking your rear view!

Bummer, I won't be up there till Oct. 1.  Thanks for all you do for the river and people who enjoy it.  Only a very few people are stewards enough to leave things better than they find them.

I will be there.  As this will be my first time for the clean up I was wondering if everyone is given a section of the river to clean or do you pick your own section?
