So after seeing on the river that pinks don't appear to bite roe at all. I was wondering what your observations/knowledge are on this subject.

Has any of you hooked er got a pink to bite on roe? and I mean bite, not flossed which can be done short floating very well and easily.

I've been trying different lures/spinners/roe/styles/technics to understand and learn the habit of pinks in the rivers. It's nice when you have a river full of fish to test with. I've learned allot this year thanks to the pinks.

I've found they don't bite roe at all. Yet some claim to have caught them on roe.

So is it my roe??? Or am I right, they don't bite roe.

I got 5 Vedder pinks on roe this year.

Yup  I have hooked several males with roe this year.

I've been out approximately 8 days this season.  Used roe 90% of the time. I had one 3 hour period where I couldn't keep them off the roe.  But aside from that I've caught maybe 5 or 6 on roe.  So yes, the bite roe, just not very often.

My guess is that it is colour- related as opposed to scent.  Pinks juvies never feed in the river so roe would be a foreign scent.  Coho, springs, and steelies all feed on roe in the river before they migrate out as they spend more than a year in the fresh and feed on eggs in nature.

Yes. Last time I was out they kept taking my roe. Many pinks were rolling in front of me closer to shore. I was fishing the deeper faster water for springs and I kept getting pinks. This was at first light where I was using a natural coloured roe, not even pink in colour. I started to run low on that roe so I switched to a drier red hott coloured roe and they still took it. I then switched to a wetter coloured roe red hott in colour and the pinks stopped biting it. However the springs couldn't get enough of it. Bingo. Every pink I caught out in the deeper, faster water were males. All between 5-7 pounds.
So to answer your question. Yes, pinks do take roe.

best way to avoid pinks imo is fishing roe, but they do nail it from time to time. Had a doe this morning take a roe bag reeeeeely deep, and it was before sunrise so color would have had nothing to do with the presentation. Had two does yesterday morning on roe as well, but for the most part they don't seem too interested

in the thompson..i had them follow the roe..but also had pink and or orange wool on as well...only fish i caught were jack springs and adult springs...and lots of sockeye and pinks blasting by that i could see!

I tried a mepps and caught 2 small trout and 2 avg pinks.  I tried a crocodile spoon and foul hooked 3 pinks..they would not bite it..maybe color...more silver i guess..as the spinner was pink with a bit of silver???

there was lots of pinks and an opening to kill them..but you had to try hard to get them to bite, easier to just spring fish up here??

maybe next year try some fly fishn?  fish not near as clean as the pix i have seen on this web site from the vedder.
