Are there any health concerns?  I was lucky enough to land something so I tried to lay it closer to where the water was flowing.  If there are health concerns, what can be done to reduce the risk?  Thanks.

I thought about that too.

I was near some fast moving water so I was able to keep my fish in some clean water while I was fishing.
But when I moved back to where my friends were fishing, there was a dead pink on shore every 3 feet.

I had my fish in a large fish bag at that point (to carry them back) but I moved several dozen yards away to clean them in the clearer water.

I wouldn't recommend gutting the fish and putting it back in the water. Once you open the fish you expose the flesh.

why not keep the fish alive before you start doin' anything to it.  So it's not sitting in the yucky water, just wondering if that is allowed.  i remember seeing people tie stronger line around the mouth to the and letting it sit in the water as it please and then retrieve it at the end of the day.  at least you know the fish is fresh.

In British Columbia, the regulation requires you to immediately dispatch the fish that you intend to retain. Keeping fish alive in a pool or on a rope is prohibited as it creates the opportunity of high grading.

The oral and anal openings already do a fine job of this.

thanks rodney for the heads up, i was thinking about doin' that just so i don't have the fish sit there all day or something before taking it home.

What I do is bonk the fish...gut & bleed it. Put it in a clean plastic bag then put fish in a cooler. I've kept some plastic containers that have a small screw on top. I washed them really good ...add water & put them in the freezer.  Load the cooler bottom with these "ice packs" & find the fish really stays in great condition.  ------- Years ago I put live trout on a stringer etc... but  sure would not do that today as I've become more sensitive to the fish's suffering. (maybe because I've got these 4-5 inch goldfish in my tank....& these fish act kinda like a dog. They come to the glass etc. when they see ya walk by ....etc...)------------------ I definately could not work in a slaughter house killing chickens cows pigs ......... but will definately buy those products at the store.
