Pretty much the same out East, only difference is the "Chum" We don't see, a much smaller Cioho population, though there is heavy stockig of Chinook, esp on the State side "NY" The stocking programs I have delt with, are mainlyChinook and a part of trying to re-introduce Atlantics to the GL's.

The Steelhead, though landlocked, and mainly stocked, there are #'s of natural fish that we have seen, product of successful spawning, which n Ont as dedicated fisherman, we C&R. The regs are quite different in Ont to BC.

In the 1980's, we saw runs of 20-30,000 fish in the East, but to date, a run of 7000 fish is a good return to most East rivers

I mainnly fished the Eastern part of Lake Ont, but do know of strong returns of wild fish t ESP Huron, Superior, and Michigan. Eire also with such a closeborder, has a HUGE Stocking program for Steel and browns, let alone the 100's of thousands of chinook per yr.

Ont and the U.S Has a strong gain per anuam, from guides, and out of town fisherman, the lure f a 30+ lb "Spring" Without paying or fly to,  or fish BC Has a huge draw on the GL's

Former Ontario resident here. Let me add to the above post that there are also no sockeye in the Great Lakes, just coho, chinook and pink. The pink are not as widespread as the other two and, to my knowledge, are confined to the northern Lake Huron although that may have changed in the years since I lived there.

I spent 20+ years in Ontario growing up Sarnia and fished alot for bass, walleye, panfish (perch, bluegill, rockbass and sunfish), catfish and carp. My favourite fishery was fishing at night during the summer in the St. Clair River for walleye.  Fishing in the spring for huge lake run carp came a close second.

That fantail rainbow is sure weird/neat, are they unique to one river system or are they relatively widespread?

From what I have been told by the minstry in Ont, tey are similar to a "Croaker" in G-Bay. A mutant of sort by stocking, and not very common in the GL'S. That one I landed to my knowledge was the 3rd recorded in Ont for that yr. I'n Ont, most fish enter river(Sorry Steelhead) From late Sept to Spawning stage by March and into May.But fish are right off the lake and are not anywhere near spawnig by Oct Nov. I did kill that fish, and when it came home it was full of loose roe, unheard of for a "Steel" In oct. Though some fish are natural, esp in the eastern basin of Lake O, but the states have a HUGE Stocking program. So we do see some fish from NY, over on the CNDN sde of the ponds.

Thanks for sharing those photos. On my trips to Ontario I have only fished for bass and walleye. I might have to rearrange my priorities.

Nice pics bro,but why are you posting Ont pics on a B.C fishing forum? Its wierd seeing those little streams you fish give up such big Steel.I also lived in Ont for a short period of time,born and raised on the coast,fished Georgion Bay, Honey Harbour for Muskie,Gar Pike ,Large mouth and small mouth Bass.One of those pics looks like the Grand River where i also wetted a line on occassion.Looks like your a hardcore Steel man like myself.Tight Lines bro!
