Chilliwack River, October 16th 2009
« on: October 16, 2009, 09:42:27 AM »

With much anticipation Chad and I slipped into the Sassy run at first light. However the bite was not on like yesterday and I only missed 3 while Chad double that and landed a coho jack, lost another and a coho adult he thought. Shane appeared a bit after first light and tangled with a chum that jumped and flossed its self on his line.  ;D He  got discouraged and headed up river. I went and found a few floats and tins while Chad stayed a bit longer before we both left together aroung 8:45 left. Not sure if it was because we were into the final stages of the flood tide but we have to blame some thing. May try it a bit later if it does not get too wet buit is raining hards now.

Angler pressure light for a Friday.

A reminder, the chum limit on the Chilliwack Vedder River as Rodney noted earlier is 1 per day. Yesterday I saw a number of anglers with two as they said it had recently moved to 2 with one person said he knew a friend who phoned FOC and they told him it was 2. Must of been a different body of water, maybe the Fraser above Mission to Hope where it is 2.

Of course many have asked for this rain and they have got what they wished for but we know what comes with it. ::)

Slipped out for a hour to the Sassy but raining so hard I packed it in, missed one fish. I thought the river was starting to color some but it could be because of all the pink spawning activity which continues to turn up a lot of gravel and silt during their spawning ritual. Will check it at dark and file a report under river conditions.

I hope the river blows right out and the fish get a break from the constant pounding they have endured for weeks now...

I agree but only because of the way they have been pounded.

Rains pounding down as well the last while. ;D

-weather update-

The daytime rain never materialized today, and the latest forcast is that tonights forcast precipitation is now focused south towards Seattle, which means we could end up being totally dry, or if we're lucky get a shower or 2 at best.
Tomorrow apparantly is a good shot at some rain, but if that one fizzles out too, we're looking at record low water till at least Wednesday.
The weather forcasting around here is useless.
As of last night they were predicting upwards of 70mm for the Eastern Valley by Saturday mid day. So far we haven't even got 10mm...and like I've already said, tonight may be quite dry.

Where we started the other day may be worth checking out tomorrow. :-\

I think the Canal area may be a bit high now by the gauge reading. :-\

Rain is the Mother Nature's way of cleaning the river and also more importantly giving a well deserved chance for some fish to make their way to the spawning grounds or the hatchery.  Love the rain...Love the Salmon  :)
I'm also happy about the rain since I cannot go fishing this weekend  :D

Cheers everyone!
