Taking my Kiwi Friend Fishing this coming weekend (Oct. 23/24)
« on: October 19, 2009, 10:24:26 AM »

Hey everyone -

I'm taking my Kiwi (New Zealander) friend from work to the Vedder this coming weekend... it'll be our second year chasing salmon together!  Last year he'd just arrived in Canada, and said he'd always wanted to catch a salmon, so I took him to the Vedder and we had a ball.  Even managed a few fish!

(Report from last year = "Chilliwack River, October 24th & 25th 2008: A trip with a Kiwi!"... I was going to link to it, but for some reason couldn't do it)

He prefers to cast spinners and spoons, and I'll likely be doing a combination of that, shortfloating roe and blades, and maybe even some speycasting.  Hopefully we won't get a ton more rain this week, as the water needs to get back into shape.   ???

Wish us luck!
:D

It should be good for the weekend if temps are low enough, the clay banks do not seem to be coloring up the water as much these days so that is good.

Have fun regardless of what people think Tex!  :)  Most of the nay-sayers are possibly envious that they cannot go fishing this coming weekend...  ;D

Who cares if you catch any fish buddy. Just go and have fun. I will be working a trade show thinking of you ;)

BTW I am not voting. Its bad luck to predict how many fish you will catch

Hahaha... thanks guys.  Obviously most out there don't think we'll have much success - and I agree they're probably not far from the truth!  LOL

The poll was just for fun, I don't really care that much about the results.  I'm more concerned with what everyone thinks about water conditions... I'll keep my eyes on the water levels post that is updated by various members.

Thanks for the well-wishes from those who care!  I'll keep my fingers crossed...

You're gonna do great Tex.  The Kiwis are good luck.  I brought one along on a trip last year and had a legendary day.  Unfortunately he got skunked though.  I was thinking about heading up there on thursday so I'll let you know how that goes if it pans out.

Definitely... give me a shout at my email address below if you want and we can get in touch about it.  Always great to have another fishing buddy to hit the flow with or share reports.

Plus, I know you like to "catch and releaf"...  hahahah...

Cheers,
Tex

Ya, weekends are a gong show, but I can't get away on weekdays very much.  This Friday will probably be my only weekday trip this year.  Unless I suddenly get "sick" one day after a push of fish comes in.  ;)

Forget swine flu, employers should worry about fish flu, more specifically, coho flu, chum flu, etc etc...

Hahaha... so true, Rod.  I can see it now:

Employee: *Cough* ya, sorry Mr. _____, I'm feeling real sick.  *sneeze*
Boss: Really?  Oh, what seems to be the problem?
Employee: I'm not *cough* sure, but the doctor believes it's a form of coho flu.  *hack*
Boss: Yikes, I don't want that.  You better not come into work today.

LOL
:D
