Tried DNE's (barbless) this year and I hated them.  Not sure if it was their design that wasn't allowing for a solid buried hookset, or if the fish were spitting the hook.  After loosing 3 ho's in a row, I immediately switched back over to gamimy's and started landing fish again.

Oops!

Just bought 25 DNEs and I'm not impressed they're not sharp at all.

BTW-If you're looking for a deal on Gammies look@ A&N they have the 25 pack for $11.99-much better price than the $16.99 they're asking @ 3Vets.

And whatever happened to those ordinary brown Mustads?

Not anymore they don't there was nothing like them downtown @ 1:00 today nor was there room for them on the rack, just the high end models.

I found DNE hooks cut through the leader when tied with a bait loop, I lost several large fish.

It may be the way that I tie the bait loop - I may try DNEs again looping the line towards me when tying the bait loop.

I use both Gami's and Owner.  Prefer the Gami's but Owner has better price most places.

Took a seminar from Peter(used to work at Fred's) about 8 years ago,  he demonstrated that most straightend hooks happen when the hook is too small for the fish or it's a foul hook.  He was able to demonstrate the a good hook up the hook will be wraped around the jaw of the fish and can't straighten out.

Try it with a small stick, put the hook around the stick and pull as hard as you can. Then put the point of the hook into the side of a stick an pull,  see which hook starts to straighten out.

If the water has any color to it I never use anything smaller than a #1 prefer a 1/0.  I only go down to a #2 as a last resort with gin clear water.   I usually find that the size of the piece of wool has more effect on the fish biting than the size of the hook.  Keep the glob of wool really small, the size of a single spring egg or smaller and use a bigger hook than you normaly would (not getting any larger than #1/0) and see what happens....

Should have posted this earlier in the week.

re:DNE hooks-found them to be an excellent product-once the hook is set it stays set.

Bought 2/0 and probably could have got away with 1/0 but no matter, the wire is a tad thick but thinner wire means more bending/breaking and nobody wants that.

There's something about the point design that to my mind is somehow counter intuitive but it works well there's no question.

Given the excellent price point I'll be using them again and would recommend them to anyone/anytime.
