Organic pollution or eutrophication results in algal bloom and depletion of dissolved oxygen, the condition is not suitable for salmonid species that require clear, cold and oxygen-rich waters. On the other hand, carp and other Cyprinidae species survive well under these conditions.

The objective of chumming is to attract fish with scent, not to feed the fish in the process. Most of the material used in chum dissolve quickly in the water. It is not consumed and becomes dissolved nutrient, the ingredient for eutrophication.

Chumming probably works great... but its illegal, so to get around that, look for natural situations in which natural "chumming" occurs- downstream of spawning salmon for bulls and trout, for trout feeding on adult mayflies- downwind of a hatch for dries, for sharks- down current from a swimming lesson for hemophiliacs, and so on.

Yeah, is PROHIBITED!!!
Beacuse is prohibited, it is WRONG!!!
YOU don't do on waters what you think is good or bad, you fish by the rules!!!
Now, my question was, why is illegal (prohibited)...

--as a general rule I agree to no chumming.

--However is some areas it should be considered for exemption.
--Artificial lakes with no outlet, such as those private lakes in Europe that are course fishing sport clubs.
--These are usually shallow warm water ponds which are fished from shore
--I think there is opportunity for some of these ponds as fishing opportunities in urban areas to introduce people to fishing and for those who seek to fish carp and other species.

--I think chumming is allowed in other provinces for carp fishing.. at least I've seen them do it on TV shows in Alberta.. doesn't necessarily mean it is legal.

--any feeding of fish should be left to fisheries biologists, if and when required.
--it would be to easy to introduce pathogins or other intentioned pollutants.

--as with all ethic of fishing and fair play... dragging your unnecessary shuffling of your feet to intentionally dislodge material  in a stream or river is chumming so don't do it. Ice fishers often seem to lose a lot of bait down the hole etc. If really uptight about it maybe using a pound of bait for sturgeon is really chumming although not illegal at this time

--ten fishers on a 30 ft boat each with a rod and bait down for halibut is another legal way to chum

Now if you want "international confrontation", it's not necessary to go that far, down in states there are places where you can chum for trout at your heart desire...

It's interesting how different places in the world, have different fishing rules. Maybe more of a tradition, is this what you mean?

Also, would be nice to keep DISCUSSING on a topic replaying where the subject started, and not spreading replays all over the forum.
