i respooled with suffix because my maxima worn out too quick for my liking
should i have stuck with maxima or did i make a good switch
the reel fits 260 yards of 8 # maxima and around 300 yards of 8 # suffix so the suffix is definitely thinner
any thoughts on this?

I would fish with the Suffix to see how it fishes. If you find that it breaks too often, or is too frail, then you can always go back to your old brand. Because a line is thinner is not a good comparison, as to whether or not it will  fish well. Different manufacturing process, and  materials could allow that manufacturer to produce a line with the same breaking strength but with a thinner line diameter.

I assume you're talking about a spinning reel since you mention the 8# line. As for the Sufix fishing line (you don't mention which one), I have experince with Sufix Elite (on spinning gear) and don't like it, too much memory despite the online reviews that swear by its limpness and low memory. With the Trilene XL SC, I was able to cast 20-30% farther. (both lines were 8lbs rating)

So people will say 'Oh I fish Maxima it's so strong' when in fact it's all about marketing.

--Not sure about claim  that maxima always underates however this is a major complaint of mine. There are some line companies that actually brag that their line labeled 20# test breaks at 30lbs. SO why don't the label it 30#!
--Although not exclusively, I use IGFA standard test line. That is the line should break very near the Labeled pound test given a standard test. That way you can fairly compare, is it thinner, more supple etc. because you are dealing with a constant.
--I think we should be pushing for a standard.. test and label for all line.
--from sportishingmag.com article on test of breaking strength of 73 lines the maxima crystal ivory rated 20# broke at 22.7 and maxima IGFA tournament silver 20# broke at 18.3... I think these are reasonably close and within acceptable limits. They can do it if they wish and the public demands.

I used Maxima Silver (IGFA rated line) for years and really liked the stuff because it was a quality line that did what it was supposed to do.

As to the Mustad it looks/feels like tough stuff.

Suffix has so many products it's hard to know where to start I'll stick with Ande Green.

It is most true with ultragreen that it breaks a bit higher than advertised. Is the suffix fluoro? 'Cause you definitely don't want that with any gear outfit.

Maxima has the best abrasion resistance and a perfect consistency and stretch for tying knots and general use. You should tie 6 lb maxima with a good knot to your suffix and see which breaks. Then tie 8 lb to the suffix and see which breaks, just out of curiosity.

I fished it for one day, after every Spring that I hooked my line would be so cut into itself that I couldn't cast properly until I had pulled all the line of the reel and reeled it back in, it is the worst line I have ever fished with and that same day I had it taken off and put Maxima back on.

I tried the Suffix Camo a few years ago on a centrepin and was not happy with the line. I quit using UG 4 years ago and switched to Mustad Thor. I've been happy with it , good knot strength, abrasion resistance and no memory. Use it on all my reels now.

all the Mustad line was made in the Suffix factory. Normark purchased Suffix. Since Normark also owns VMC, both Mustad and Normark came to an agreement for Mustad to get out of the line business so last year (2008) Mustad discontinued offering all their line products in North America. Once product is sold out at retail it wil not longer be available.
