i need a little advice on why type of fly line in should use on the vedder
i've 8wt floating line, ive heard to use lead core leader or split shots or should i just go buy a sink tip fly line. I'm a little confused any thoughts

If I were you, I would go out and pick up a Floating line with a sink tip. Even Better, pick up a RIO Versi Tip http://www.rioproducts.com/product.php?fmCategory=10.

The Versi Tip will allow you to fish all kinds of water, Slow, Fast, Shallow, Deep, etc....

A multi tip line is the way to go IMO.  The Versitip is a good line, but not very durable.  If you get 30 full days out of it before the loops start falling apart, you're lucky.

I have not had that issue Matt, If you have, please contact me and I will see if I can get you a replacement. Things happen, it could just be a manufacturing flaw, I have not heard this issue from anyone else.

Send it back.  Mine have been awesome (besides my type6 head which cracked and peeled after about a month, but it was replaced quickly).

The Rio versi tip system has been great. I have had mine for a few years now.

I have an airflo multi tip which seem to work well but I have only had it for a few months.  Hooked up with lots of fish on it though!

Multi-tip systems are essential for fishing rivers and well worth the money.

Never had any problems with my tips either!  Probably because I lose the pouch containing them before they've been used very much.   I've had to replace tips but not because they've worn out.  DOH!

The other option, since you already have the 8wt floater, is to just buy the tips that you need.  This is my first year so, someone with steelhead experience should chime in here, but I think a type 3 and 8 would be a start.  You can split shot if it's a deeper or faster run.

If you take your 8wt dry line to a shop, they should be able to chop the floating tip off and attach a loop, then you can purchase sinktips and fish your floating tip as well.
That's all I did for my 8wt single hander.

3 and 6 ft lengths of t-14 is all I every use on the Vedder depending on depth or current.  30 lb monofiliament perfection loops nail-(less) knotted on each end to connect on to flyline and leader.  Buy t-14 at Berry's.  I think it costs about 50 cents a foot for the t-14.  You do the math and compare to the versatips.
