Hi there ray, they were selling soft bodied senko's and soft bodied worms with a wriggling action.
Noxscape has a wealth of knowledge on this topics and I got all of my original tips from him then just went out there and tried things. My experience trying this out last year is these critters will hit on just about anything that moves but these are the things that seemed to work particularly well for me:
- Light brown wriggly worms about 4 inches long - these are a very soft plastic with a flattened tail on one end. I guess this imitates a salamander or something like that.
- Sencos green on one side dark on the other with a slow sink rate 4 to 6 inches long - they slam these as they are sinking
- Toads - I was using soft plastic toads light green on the bottom, dark on top. They hammer these too and you will find them sold and Army and Navy (about 2 inches, I would prefer larger ones)
- Dick nite spoons - copper with red. Really effective but they tend to attact small ones. Good for crappies too.
I would say, start out with a small (cheap) selection of things and see what you have the most confidence in. Personally I avoid the expensive top water baits simply becuase the soft plastics are way cheaper and very effective.
