I want to start bass fishing in the spring and i want to know what equipment i would need,rods,reels(baitcasting or spinning) lures and would also like to try fly fishing for them too so any info will be appreciated.

Its really up to you regarding gear.  Any decent rod with a stiff backbone 6-7ft would be a good start.  A medium sized spinning reel with some 8-12lb line would be a good start.

Any combo in $75 (and up) range should be decent enough to give you trouble free operation.

Head in to Reaction Fly and Tackle if you are close to their.  They will be able to set you up with gear and lures/plastics that will help.  Don't go fly blind into a walmart or crappy tire.  Use advice, its why tackle stores are always the best option.

I would urge you to go the spin casting route for a while, before baitcasting.  Unless you have experience throwing one, it will cause you more headaches than it is worth, especially when you are just starting out.

If you want a good setup that is cheap head to wal-mart and get a ugly stick combo 6'6" or so i just got a combo for 39.99$ I have owned many of these rods and hands down i have to say the are the best you can get for the price.They are virtually unbreakable.

I guess i should be more specific. i will be using topwater baits, spinnerbaits,crankbaits and plastics so i was wondering what rods and reel styles work best for each. i use baitcasting reels for all my salmon and steelhead fishing.

after watching many shows on bass fishing over the years i have noticed that the majority of guys use level wind reels and usually a 1pc 7foot medium action rod for bass fishing. of course you can use anything you choose  I would presonally use a fly rod

What flies would work for bass here. I'm totally new at fishing for bass so i really know nothing about them

Bass are pigs and take almost anything you throw at them.I normally use whole dewies or plastic worms rigged with a tiny split shot right above the hook.Kind of like a jig but i find most jig heads are to heavy,so the small splitty works well.

I don't want to go off topic but can you catch bass in the lower mainland? The only time I ever caught bass was up at Christina Lake past Grand Forks when I was a little kid.
So technically I've never been bass fishing before? Can I get by with my spin rod I use for trout?

There are many opportunities to catch large mouth bass in the lower mainland.  Especially if Ray is planning to fish the Pitt Meadows, Abbotsford, Mission areas.  This site suggests a few good spots to start http://www.anglingbc.com/index.cfm/page/86/Places.html.  You can definitely get by with trout rod.  As Rantalot said, bass with take almost everything, but in terms of flies (in my experience), you can't really go wrong with black or olive wooly buggers.

I have attempted bass fishing locally and the same situation occures almost every time the fish attack my lure only to stop and turn around at the last second I try switching it up and the same thing happens very frusterating.Whats up with this?

I was catching them using micro leeches in Abbotsford in the summertime.
