Chilliwack River, January 19th 2010
« on: January 19, 2010, 12:46:12 PM »

The sun was shining this morning without the harsh wind from the last few days so I decided to head out again.

Got down to the lower end around 10:00am and just as I was walking towards the trail, I spoke to a fisherman leaving.

He told me that he hooked into a 12lb wild fish today but he had to go take care of his young kids. I decided to fish where I started yesterday- fast water in the middle but really slow water close in.

Someone was fishing the tailend of the run but he was casting really far out. I decided to fish further above him. Made a few casts really close in and on my 10th casts, my float dipped a bit and the sensitivity of the Sage rod tells  me it was a fish.

I was ready on my next cast and sure enough my float went down completely . I set the hook and it was good to feel the headshaking of a fish and see the chrome flashing in the water. It was not a big steelhead but nonetheless, it gave me a good battle.

Decided to take the first of the year.

After landing that fish, another guy that saw me decided to make a few casts into the same spot. He hooked into one right away but it took a couple of jumps and it got away.

Water level is a bit high but very fishable. Finding lots of water with "slow water" on the edge- thats where they like to sit.

Water is about 2-3 visibility.

I only lost two today making it 0 for 6 for the season. :( The second one I had on for a bit and it was a good sized fish and I had a good tussle with it until it got off.  ::)Then to top it off I phoned The Master to come and see if he could hook some in the hot spot as we are now after fish for the  brood stock program, he comes and hooks two in runs I had already fished  :o but it loses his two as well. :-X

Well maybe tomorrow I will end this losing streak.

PS I was using new hooks this time hue-nut. ;D

Nice fish, I landed my first of the year today too, 6th or 7th time out lost another one about 4 casts after I released this one.

Was in such a panic I forgot to smile I guess I know I was happy.
