What is wrong with that male house finch??? :o Looks like it fell in the washing machine.
LOL - no kidding!

Nice.  For aesthetics sake you could put some kind of perch (piece of driftwood, old stump, branch stuck into the ground) about 5-6 feet from your feeder.  It would let them land there and give you great photo/film ops without the actual feeder... Just a thought.

My house finch is kept away from the washing machine. ;D

We have a family of white-crown sparrows in the yard right now, youngs are constantly feeding on the ground.

Nice to see the White Crowned Sparrows... we don't have them up on the mountain.

Some West Coast Vancouver Island Birds

I was out in Ucluelet for 3 days last weekend.  We stayed at the Black Rock Resort… What a great place!
Our room looked right out onto “Big Beach” and this gave me a great opportunity to go down and crawl in the seaweed to find a few sandpipers
Spotted Sandpiper:

Least Sandpiper:

We also explored a bit up island and ended up at a place the locals call “The Blowhole”.  While the blow hole didn’t really put much effort out for us, we did see some eagles (unfortunately the evening sun was BEHIND them).  I scrambled like a mad a fool and managed to get on the sunny side of a pair of Black Oystercatchers. They are a funny looking bird and the beak seems out of proportion to the rest of the bird.  Perhaps because it’s bright red.  Here’s one:

We also drove up to Tofino and checked out Long Beach with the hope of finding more shorebirds.  The weather fogged in badly, but I did get this shot of a juvenile gull (species anyone?):

It turned out to be a pretty good bird photo opportunity weekend.   We had a great time and look forward to heading back again whenever we can get the time.
Thanks Ukee!

Any pictures of the back of the bird?

My thoughts are either "Willow Flycatcher" or perhaps "Bushtit"
