Gun Lake
« on: February 02, 2010, 08:25:28 PM »

Hey,

Has anyone ever fished or vacationed at Gun Lake? I plan on potentially buying a lake front lot there for investment purposes. I would appreciate any info i can get on your views or opinions to add to my valuations.
Your feed back is much appreciated. thank you.

Rhino.

Access is interesting, up over the "Hurley" River Road from upper Pemberton Meadows (Summer/Fall access only/Graval Road) or Driving in from Lillooet along the Carpenter Lake road towards the Town of Gold Bridge.

A far number of Whistler area locals have invested up that way - Gun lake , Bralorne etc.. great snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, dry weather..Hotel,Bar,Restraunt,Gas,store in town of Gold Bridge.

Hurley opens around May 24 depending on snow cover.

Thanks! Heard about the road access. Thats what I like about it actually. Make it more remote like a "getaway" should be.My realtor did say that whistler residence bought there to get away as whistler got more hectic. This is one reason why I am thinking of buying there as an investment. It can be a jewell in 5 to 10 yrs.I think it already is actually. The property I am looking at is almost 4 acres and has huge lake frontage as well. I dont think I can go wrong with lake front. Just matter of being able to afford it with my partners.

Thanks again Snapperhead!

It's awesome country in every way and I can't see it not being a solid investment. If the Hurley is ever  upgraded to provide winter access property will be in hot demand.

Rhino, have you actually ever been there? It is beautiful, surrounding lakes offer decent fishing. It is a mountain bikers paradise.
However with the good weather comes all the other owners, family, and friends to the lake. In the summer Gun lake is bustling. Their are properties all around the lake. If you are out on the water it is like being in a fish bowl. It can get pretty busy. As for the Hurley, it never remains open through the winter. In the 20 or so years that i have benn enjoying the area it has been kept open throughout the winter once. That was when logging was still active. A couple of years back they kept it open until mid Dec. so that some machinery could get trucked in. The Hurley will never get paved either. Many people speculate on this but there is no infrastructure for a road of that nature. What you should do in May is go to Lillooet via Duffy lake road. That used to be gravel as well. They decided to pave it and basically plunked down blacktop with minimal preparation. If it wasn't for the Olympics that road would be crap too. The section along Duffy Lake has been repaved for about 25k. But it was brutal. Anyway go to Lillooet and then to Goldbridge via road 40. Check out the area and return along the Hurley. Its a great drive at least once.
Not trying to dissuade you in any way but perhaps just a small dose of reality. Don't forget sales people make money by selling. Just my $.02

Thank you for the feed back Paulo.Much appreciated! I have never been there but i plan a trip to view the lot in a couple weeks. I know we have to go through lillooet. From what I have found out so far it seems that the area has not fully been discovered yet. I also have interest in the area because of its proximity to Vancouver and whistler. To find 360 feet of lake frontage on 3.5 acres (sub dividable) is rare anywhere never mind a 4 hour drive (in summer) from Vancouver. I am in sales myself and I too make money from selling but there are sales people out there with high integrity. If some makes a bad purchase of any kind without doing their own due diligence, research and investigation then its not the sales persons fault the investment goes bad. Advice from anyone (including sales rep) does not translate to research or proper valuation.

please keep the feed back coming if anyone has any at all and pictures would be awesome too!

Cheers and thank you.

Definitely do the Duffy Lake drive to Lillooett, then the Carpenter Lake route(bridge river road) to Goldbridge, it is some of the most beautiful scenery one can encounter. I have always found the Duffy Lake road to be in decent shape regardless of the Olympics or any other event. It is true that it is basically a major logging road with asphalt on it, but it is a good road. I used to drive it before it was paved and never had any trouble. Once on the carpenter lake route take a trip down the south side of the hillside and check out Shalath and Seton Portage, again breathtaking scenery. If you could obtain a back issue of( BC Outdoors - Sport fishing - summer 2007), there was a Backroads article called Quartz Gold Loop - Part 2 and it covers the region in detail, a fascinating read with a great map.
Don't let anyone dissuade you from your endeavor this region rocks in every way. Also, Gun lake is enormous at 535 hectares or 1,322 acres, with a perimeter of 15 km's
