Mission, January 31st 2010: I caught the Trout Park Kahuna
« on: February 02, 2010, 10:07:49 PM »

I don't often post reports but this one is worth mention.

On Sunday afternoon I was teach my latest class their practical portion of the class at the  Sun Valley Trout Park. As a rule I don't fish while teaching a class, unless it is to help dial in the bite after which I stop. The fishing was very good and all four of my students had landed over ten fish each and they asked me to show my skills. Reluctantly I agreed.

On the fifth take, my rod bent over deeply to the weight of what I knew was a good fish. After a challenging fight I landed my largest rainbow from the park yet. The bow was a full 24 inches with a 14 girth for a weight of 5.88 lb. The naysayers might say "ya but it was a at a trout farm," to which I would say "yes, but this was January 31, where else can you land a rainbow on a fly from the bank at this time of year.

Now who's up to the challenge of topping me with an even 6 lb?

We have a winner!  What was your fly pattern?

Caught mine on leach pattern I made up for Canadain National last Sept. #8 Steamer: Black Maraboo tail, finished off with 4 Ostrich Hurl (2 red + 2 black) palmered to the eye.
