I'm heading over to the island on Sunday until Thursday to try something different by exploring the area and doing some beach fishing. Any advice would be much appreciated.

half moon bay near uculet (sp???) is suppose to be good fishing. lots of easy to climb rocks to fish off of, and its sheltered, hardly any waves at all.
it is about a 1.5 kilometer hike in if i remember right

Hi Eagleye,
Am going to be over there working myself. Am thinking of bringing the spinning rod for some beach fishing. There is supposed to be good cutty fishing on local beaches like Grice Bay. If you are in Tofino and are hitting some late afternoon fishing maybe we could hook up? Also have some info on some streams; if you PM me your email address I can pass it on if you like,

Was there over 10 years ago casting into the surf catching what i believe were perch.  That was on a long sandy beach.

Also we found some cliffs to cast off and we were catching larger black fish.  No idea what the were but they were bigger.  We called them "seabass" but they were not.

Try it out just check where you are fishing I believe some areas are closed but the ocean on that side is quite bountiful.

those are black rock cod. locals also call em sea bass. You'll also get greenlings, lingcod, and the odd quillback.

btw, fishing sucks this time of year. fish go in slow metabolism mode.

sorry to bring this up from the dead, but I'm headed to Tofino for a few days and I was thinking about bringing my spinning rod 

I was wondering about the set-up to use on the beach? Should i throw some bait or did you use lures?

If they looked like perch they would be surf perch, if you get into a school of them you get one every cast, some of them grow to a couple of pounds. They are not bad to eat, they make really good stock.
