at rice they bite within 20 mins of stocking for a couple of hours, then disperse around the lake and are harder to catch,

Yep. Keep in mind that the temperature is taken from shore and there is quite a bit of shading at Rice compared to the other lower elevation lakes on a sunny day like yesterday.

Just curious, how does either a high or low water temerature affect the feeding behavior of the recently stocked fish. I am sure warmer water woudl mean more lethargic fish, so colder temps would be better?...

When its warm i find the fish near bottom, cooler like rice i fish nearer the surface. also rice is much higher up so the temp at night gets much colder.

rice is definitely less central, but definitely my favorite of the LM lakes... that one and green timbers. I actually drove to lafarge once to give it a try as it is close to where I now live, and turned around and went home... the environment (IE right in the city with so many people around) just didn't look like a place where i would be comfortable fishing.

Rice has a little of that "into the woods" feel and I can relax and enjoy my surroundings a bit more there. the numerous bays, nooks and crannies also make guessing where the fish are a little more enjoyable, rather than a bog oval shaped duck pond like lafarge.

Rice has a nice setting IN THEORY. last four times I have been there it would of been quieter fishing on the vedder under the highway 1 bridge! Yesterday there was a school party came past and stopped on the dock for an hour. I felt nearly as sorry for the teacher trying to control them as I did for myself and the nice ladies who were trying to fly fish!

My wife and I were there Saturday as well ... when we left we saw the school group coming in.  Were you the guy fly fishing next to those two nice ladies on the pier?  We didn't catch any trout that morning, still had a good time trying though.

I was at Rice lake yesterday, and there are still plenty of fish left from the last stocking.
