no problem

while im here, does anyone know how high haney wharf is off the water? it looks to be quite high off the water, and if thats the case i don't think id like to fish it for sturgeon.

Haney Wharf is a popular spot for sturgeon fishing. You can have good success there. The only problem is there are a few snags around. When you walk down to the dock to the right and the end is where most guys like to fish. There are snags there so be aware.

Ya i read that there were a few snags there. I was just concerned about fishing and landing a fish from a dock that is up off the water.

The wharf is barely above the water. You will have no problems landing a fish there.

Great, thanks for the info. I think i might try there tomorrow, i got my eulachons today and a few extra weights so im ready to go.

Im not entirely sure where it is. Is it near the Haney bypass? With access to it off river road? Its a hard place to find on google maps.

Its right beside the Haney stop for the West Coast Express. Its across the street from the Billy Minor Pub. Google Map either of those and you have found it.

I don't use cured roe for sturgeon, i don't think anybody i know does,
just take it out of the salmon and freeze it, done..

I have never tried cured roe, so i don't know if it will work. somebody else might know.

I have abunch of roe in my freezer too. It's cured though.

Today I went out and gave sturgeon fishing a go for the first time. Within the first hour i hooked one and lost it after a few shakes and then 15 minutes later got another one on which I landed. Nothing too big but a good start to sturgeon fishing. My first sturgeon ever!!!!!! I can't wait to go again, it was a blast.

Just a quick question. I have seen people fish with their hook and bait off of the bottom. Does it really matter if your bait is on the bottom or just a few inches off?

Thanks

P.S- Nice fish :)

Bait is on the bottom, it is important the bait sit on the bottom, and does not spin in the current.
In fast current i trim off the gill plate and fins and tail off my eulachans, also the head to be legal..
Even my roe bags i hang them with knot on the down river side of the hook as to not have it not spin..

I must say I am very excited about your sucess. i just started salmon fishing on the vedder this last season. got into my first steelie, however i am interested in rigging myself for some sturgeon. whens the best time for sturgeon? i assume they would be more plentiful and fat durring salmon season.
