I use Kevlar gloves.  Ordered from Cabelas.com for $15.

I also used them when handling barracuda in Mexico.  Work great.

Army & Navy has the cheapest prices - $8 for 5.
They are marked as "Smelt", I think, on the packaging.

Those are Columbia river smelt, nit the same as Eulachon...... will work on occassion, but you need the real thing! I buy in 25 pound blocks, partial thaw and zip lock into bags of 10.... get roughly 22 bags... if you are a serious dino fisher, best way to go at roughly $0.57 each compared to $1.60 each!

I went out again today, im now 3 for 3 on sturgeon trips.

Caught my biggest one to date, 65 inches.

That sounds very tempting, and id love to take you up on that offer but i already promised my wife that i would have a family day on saturday and that I would take my daughter to her swimming lessons. Sunday is my designated fishing day this week. I am taking a friend out for his first time sturgeon fishing. Unfortunately we'll be fishing from shore but at least we'll be getting out. Thanks for the offer though.
