I've been planning on were would be a good spot's for me to go fishing in the Summer and that are a pretty easy Bike ride down to from Newton, and i have narrowed it down to two diffrent river systems. The Nicomekl and the Serpentine, i was just wondering on what kind of flies, lures, bait, etc. would work good down there.  Also what type of fish would be in there between July and August?? thanks for any help

first you should make sure the rivers are both open to fishing  Im not sure of the openings off the top of my head but think they are closed.

I would just hit Timbers from Newton because i can always pull some fish in there with a chironie dangled 3-4feet down.

What's in that serpentine anyways? I see people fishing there the odd time at the bottom of the 64th ave hill going up towards cloverdale.

CBC news headline indicated that a diesel/oil spill occurred on the Nicomekl river, Surrey, a couple days ago, and I have  not seen any other information related to this issue.   Has anyone heard on the extent of this spill

I hope that this event wont wreck the little fishing left on this river.

well i was walking around the nick on saturday with a friend and his little girl and heard from a elderly man that the diesel spill happened around 208th (berry road) here in langley... fire department and other emergency crews were out  shortly after...  there are signs around 192nd that there is some one pouring chemicals in McLean creek.. the hatchery had there open house last saturday... heard they had a good turn out...

Just did some research on what types of fish run up there and got this.  Coho, Chum, Chinook, Pink Salmon, Cutthroat, Steelhead and Rainbow Trout, as well as redsided shiners, three spine sticklebacks, western brook lamprey, brown Bullhead, Carp and Sculpins, anyone know if this is true??

thank you for finding the related article on the Province.   It seems that the drainage pipe are not very well controlled or protected against this type of spillage.    How many of these drainage pipe from industrial areas reach local rivers ?  Please don't tell me "lots".

Amazing how the river can become such a nice and cheap drainage channel.

do you think small spin n glo's would work in there?? n for flie fishing would an egg pattern work also??

Small urban streams...under alot of pressures...spills,poachers,urbanization.Best left alone in my humble opinion.I can tell u i enjoyed some fine fishing there 30 yrs ago for cuthroat trout with very little pressure and plenty of fish.

Oh i forgot to add, i will release EVERYTHING i catch there (if i do )
