Question about valve leak on pontoon boats
« on: May 05, 2010, 11:53:42 AM »

I have a couple pontoon boats.  One new and one old.  My older one has developed a slow leak in the valves.  I have tried to clean them but they are still leaking.  I have heard of people removing the valve assembly and giving it a proper cleaning.  Unfortunately I can't seem to figure out how to remove the valves.  I have the valve wrench which does not help in disassembling the valve itself.  I think that something might be wrong with the spring or it is weakened due to age.  So my questions are...

Is there any way to disassemble the valve to be properly cleaned and reassembled?

Is it possible to replace the valve itself?  (or even just the spring?)

What is the best way to clean it?

I have looked online for help with this but have found few resources on pontoon boat care and maintenance.  All the sites just say to keep them clean...useless!

The boat is a Water Skeeter (not sure which model but it is just like the new river tamer)  and has the typical double bladder system, etc.  Hopefully one of you fishing gurus will be able to clear this up for me!
