mill lake cat fish
« on: June 26, 2010, 09:48:07 AM »

I was walking around mill lake and I saw a rather large catfish  at the dock. I would like to catch one of these with my kids. What should I be using for bait? Do I just let the bait sit on the bottom? Have any of you caught any of catfish at mill lake in Abbotsford. Thanks

We always had good results with chicken liver. Tie the liver into a gauze type fabric before putting it on the hook.

love noodlin for catfish

Did you actually do it, or just like watching it done?

When I visited my hunting friends in Louisiana I was invited to try it. I caught a few small catfish -they are very good eatin' when prepared properly - and had a hell of a fight to get them out of the hole. The thing is with catfish that they lay in hiding in a deep mud hole and if they feel attacked they can blow themselves up firmly wedged in the hole. You also want to watch out not to get your hand into their mouth as they will suck it in, this is easier said then done in the muddy water and the fish buried deep in a mud hole. This happened  to one of the guys while I was there. It took four grown man to pull the guy away from the fish, a seven foot monster. Once freed the guys arm looked like skinned all the way from the elbow down, that's how deep the catfish sucked the mans arm into his mouth and held on to it with his multiple rows of razor sharp teeth. Every year a few people are killed, drowned, noodlin' for catfish.

Now that I can say that I tried it it's not something I ever want to do again. Sure it's fun but can also get quickly quite scary as you have no idea how big the fish is your touching and how hungry he is.

as for the "man eating catfish".. as you can see that is a whale shark and not a catfish :)

When my dad showed it to me I said it was a whale shark. So typed in "Huadu's Furong Reservoir" into google this morning and found this-
