Going to be fishing a lake with a bait ban.  I will be using a fly rod however some friends of mine only fish with a spincaster/float set up.  Just wondering what they could use under the float if there if no bait is allowed.

--Chironomids: just like fly fishing... use smallest float
--we used this method successfully on family fishing weekend... showing kids and others new to fishing. It's even easier than fishing with bait.
--you might want to conscider using a fluorocarbon leader to the fly or small split shot.
--also could use the drop shot method where weight is at bottom of the line and fly attached above the weight.. either with dropshot style hook on mainline or T-turn type swivel with short leader.

--this is assuming the flyfisher in the boat is going to want to anchor and fish from a stationary position.. so you would be fishing similar method.. can even use a float and floating fly.  If you're really into spin fly casting you could splice a piece of floating or sinking flyline into your line.. and use the weight of this line to cast with.

--If the fly guys are trolling wet flies then you have options of smaller flutter spoons or light spinners.. again the flyfisher would likely want to troll as a slow speed so you need light weight trolling spoons that would not sink to deep at slow speeds.

--IF you are in different boats then you can troll or cast at your own speed thus giving you many more options.
--an inventive spin caster should be able to replicate any fly fishing presentation if they wish to do so.

--some with fly gear users have been know to attach small flutter spoons or flat fish to their fly lines.. a bit of compromise on both parties should lead to good fun

thanks for the input guys.  ill be in my kick boat, and the other guys will be on shore, or possibly in a canoe.  would power bait worms be ok? or because they are scented they arent ok?

Anything with a scent is considered bait.
