Vedder July 2nd
« on: June 30, 2010, 09:05:36 PM »

I am planning on going out on the 2nd but heard the fishing for springs isnt good until around the 10th.
But heard the trout fishing can be quite good around opening date, whats the best way to target the trout on the vedder without a fly rod?

For Springs :
-Black/Red wool combos
-Colorados (Silver for sunny days, gold for cloudy days)
-Pro cured prawns (also very good for sockeye - make sure you release them)
-ROE = best

Trout :
-I would personally dry fly fish them on a 4 wt or smaller rod
-Prawns/roe work for them as well, colorados also do the trick

"Trout" fishing may not be as good this year as years previous.
These trout are Steelhead smolts released by the hatchery, this year the hatchery released them in May instead of June so I am assuming more probably went to the ocean and didn't residualize in the river. We did get 4 today though and they all seemed to be bigger than years previous between 12-15 inches long.
