« on: August 18, 2010, 03:12:28 PM »

Just bought some leader savers but how do you use them ?? I know you tie them to the main line but are you using a short leader from the bottom them to the weight or just hook the weight to the swivel ? I have never used them before need advice .

Attach your main line to the short side, leader on the longer side and weight on the middle, bottom side

I know of 2 types of leader savers.

The cable ones look like an upside down V with one leg longer than the other . Attach the mainline to the top of the inverted V, The leader to the longer leg of the V and clip the weight to the short leg of the V.

The other type look like a 6 inch piece of wire in a plastic tube with swivels at both ends and a loop that swivels around the wire at one end. Clip the weight to this loop, and attach the mainline to the swivel at that end. The leader attaches to the other end.

Yes.  The idea is the steel cable will be tougher than mono, and the betty will bounce on the leader saver instead of breaking your leader.

vee shape, long leg to leader, short leg to betty, top of vee to main line
