Question about smoked salmon???
« on: August 20, 2010, 01:42:50 AM »

I dropped off a bunch of pink salmon to Yoshi's Smoke House in North Van almost a year ago....too lazy to pick it up.  How long does vacuum packed, smoked fish keep for???  I'm thinking about picking it up, but if its gone bad theres no sense....and that's if they even have it.

Depends upon whether its frozen or not...  :D

I have some pink that I smoked, vacuum packed and froze last fall.  Still good.

The question you should be asking is whether they still have it?  ;D  I'll wager that they don't have it anymore...

Gave Yoshi's a call....to my surprise they still had the fish.  Went and picked it up and its all good, they did a really good job.  They kept it frozen and had it vacuum sealed.  I'm happy....maybe next time i wont wait so long to pick up the fish.

I'm surprised that they still have your fish after one year. Did they not call and let you know it was ready ?

Yeah they did...in November, but i guess laziness got the best of me.  What would they normally do with the fish that hasn't been picked up for a while???

I dropped of 8 pinks, altogether they weighed 24lbs.  They filleted the fish, smoked it and vacuum sealed it for 63 bucks...not to bad.  Gave the fish a try, turned out awesome.

Was there a minimum total weight that they would process?  Or was this a fixed price per pound delivered?

One local place I know of charges for a minimum weight of 40 lbs.

I don't think there is a minimum total weight, they charged me by the pound and then a couple bucks extra for vacuum sealing
