Hi guys,

with th commercial opening in the tidal portion of te Fraser, will the upper part of the river have recovered enough by Saturday to warrant a venture out to a bar, or will it be largely void of sockeye?

Just wondering, as I am investing in new gear today...

A few years ago I had a bunch of time off and got pretty good at predicting salmon travel.
It got to the point where I knew the fishing would be bad and I wouldn't go out.

It takes approximately 3 days for fish to reappear near Hope after a commercial opening at the mouth.
Same thing happened last weekend - no fish until Saturday evening.

i agree about 3 days to hope ,might bo ok sat morning but for 1-2 days it will be slow. sat/sun maybe monday.at hope.

when we are talking about the bars around chilliwack, is this considered hope by you guys?

really hoping Saturday afternoon will be ok. any chance of this?

dont worry so much about that. There is always a chance of fish if you get you line wet. go and have fun if thats possible with combat fishing.

Just get out there and give er, fishing might be slow but there will be some fish in the water

 Lots of fish to go around for everyone this year. Got my 2 today and another buddy got his 2 in an hour and a half.  Im sure there will be fish over the weekend, may take a bit but it will pay off.

I've got all day Saturday, and super early Sunday if need be.

I am wondering if there will be a noticeable difference between early Saturday and later Saturday afternoon/evening for the fish coming back up.

Is there any point at getting there at 6 in the morning with the commercial fishery that just happened, or do you think giving the fish that extra half day might bode better for the number of fish encountered?

There may be a difference - but as many get caught in the commercial opening - there are still quite a few that get by the nets.  It may just be a matter of putting in some extra time on Saturday. 

The locals may show up early to get their 2 and be done with it.  I noticed this year that later in the morning/early afternoon, there seems to be a little more room available at the popular bars.  But it was also very hot then as well.

ey guys,

rather than starting a new thread and looking like I am just trying to get my post count up, I thiought I would ask another related question here:


I know there are several differnt timed runs of the socks, and that DFO can shut the fishery down any time they choose/think is right, but approximately how long does the sockeye run go for

AND, given the high returns this year, how long do you think the recreational opening will last?

Also, am i right in hearing that the lte run of socks is the biggest one???

The river will close faster than a bank at 4pm as soon as the first of the interior coho start to show up.   The consensus is that no bycatch of them is acceptable.

It all depends.

I remembered years back when we were fishing for cohos and ended up going to the Fraser for sockeyes- that probably meant we went right into September.

I do not remember the year though.

yesterday 97000 in the blinkhorn test biggest so far. the run is a monster. how can they close sports if they leave nets in the river,nets kill coho.sports can release them.most of the late run havent even seen the river. i was at gill road 24th sept in 1997. dident see any coho flossed then it was pinks and sockeye.

Does it really matter how productive it will be?
Just go out and enjoy the day.
You should be able to catch your two fish no problem, if that is what you are looking at.

I personally want to try them on the fly this weekend. Flossing them with gear is just too easy!

Oh I'm definitely going. Just have to decide/figure out which bar to go to for my first foray...
