Hi there, I am in the market for a new CP rod and was thinking about a rod with sliding rings instead of a fixed reel seat anyone have any thoughts on this, thanks.

most sliding rings blow...they always slip and you need to tape them.

Go with a fixed seat. As Kingpin said, they slide

If its your main goto rod I would say definately go with a fixed seat. I have a rod with sliding rings that I use ocasionally, and it is nice having the ability to switch from a centerpin reel to a levelwind or spinning reel when needed. That said the rings can slip a bit, depending on how each reel fits the rings.

Thanks for the input guys, FF a reel falling off was my main concern when looking at the rings, I would be really upset if that happened.

Kingpin, these ''W fittings'' are a sliding ring and if so would they work well with an Islander.

I have sliding rings on one of my rods.  I find that if you get the rings wet and slide them as far up the reel seat as possible, it will hold tight.
