I agree that it looks cool. I was amazed the first time I saw a sockeye in this state. I thought them 'turning red' just meant like a shade. Pretty neat.

Rob, part of the problem with this site, lot of good information, but a few people who post who feel that their way is the only way and if you do not agree with them then you are not a real fisherman....... lol. A good site overall though.

What's wrong with a guy posing with a red sockeye or a coloured chum ?  It's all in the eyes of the beholder. Seems some people like to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

The problem I have with the sockeye shot of the humped up red male is that it was probably picked off while getting ready to spawn. When salmon get to that stage of the life cycle leave them alone so that they can reproduce, instead of harassing them.

Agreed and so obvious. Same as any spawner. I've hooked chum in that stage and I try to keep them in the water, use pliers to unhook them as quick as I can.

KP - you have no idea what kind of numbers i put. I have been 2 years with the spey rod so its still all learning more than catching it seems. I have hooked them but they get away on me   If i take the gear rod out then i catch no problem. Took the rod out 1 day last year and went home with dinner and it was also the ONLY time i have used roe for steelies.
