Your greatest input will be from the mouth of salmon when they bite these.   Good for you.   I hope these Flies are your ticket to salmon on the Fly rod.

Numbers 2,3,4,6,& 8 all look good to me. Make sure you are using hooks that are both large enough and strong enough. I recommend Mustad Atlantic Salmon hooks in #4 & #2.

all of your flies look good, not all the good looking ones get the fish, I had some that I tied my first year salmon flies and they are not the most good looking, but hey they have safe my on the river in a couple of times. all I got to said stay away from Mustad hooks they break easy and the or they will split open on the middle of a fight. this is the only type of fly hooks that has let me down on the river.. hope this helps

I like that last one the best, I can see that being lethal high-sticked through some runs.

Congratulations on starting fly-tying. I haven't tied any for a long time and my fly boxes are examples of that. It's a special feeling when you hook a fish on something you made yourself.

Never had a problem with gamakatsu hooks in my life.

I've dredged them over the rocks for years and they stay sharp. Mustad R90 is another great hook, but needs sharpening from time to time. R90 is a workhorse as it's 4x strong.

Blackgivesway2blue I wouldn't be afraid to try any of those flies, you have done a nice job on all of them.

Good Luck and have fun trying them out.

You are not the first person i have heard say this. Personally I have not had a Mustad fail me in my 20 years of fly fishing salmon and that includes every species up to 36 lb springs.

Some very nice flies and some good ties.

May not be the most useful for getting to where the fish are, though.

For many of my Coho flies, I like to use beads, especially tungsten beads.
They are a nice way to finish the fly off, and will help you get down into the zone in deeper water.

In addition, I like my flies to have a bit of flash.
Colours I like to add are blue, green, and brown/copper.

Good luck with the coho and your flies.
Often, it involves experimentation and having your fly in from of the fish at the right time,

If your swinging them thru and not getting a tug then try an upstream mend to drop the fly more or cast more upstream to let the fly sink more before it swings the seam or pocket you want to fish. They are some decent looking flies on ok hooks and you should do well with them.

Blue - you do know that alot of the patterns you tied are steely and Atlantic salmon hairwing flies right ?

they arent particularly flies we use here as they dont get down to the fish to well, designed more for sub surface type stuff or mid water column with sink tips.

my best flies for salmon are: beadhead rolled muddlers|(natural, olive, chartruese, blue, purple, pink, black), xmas trees, xmas tree style wooly buggers (tied with palomer chenille), wooly buggers in various colours (pink, purple, olive, white), small Clousers in chartruese/white and red/white. thats just my more used patterns however i do carry a few more but not many. These work on every salmon species in their own situations, of course some work better then others for certain species but thats why i carry them all LOL
