More Action From Peg, September 2, 2010
« on: September 02, 2010, 10:09:42 PM »

Went out to Peg today to get some requested stills pictures for FOC.

Also filmed some of the action, note the segment at the end, not the best practices.

That looks like fun, very peaceful and relaxing ::). Some of those guys are wading out far, looks like the water is moving quick. One wrong step and you could be in alot of trouble.

What a zoo, it makes me sick to the stomach. I can't believe people will invest $200-400 dollars on fishing gear, $45 on licenses, $10-50 on gas, and 3-8 hours of their day to do THIS.

If it's "only for the meat" because it's a "meat fishery", then save your money and buy the fish from the store or docks. If this is considered a great day on the river, snagging the hell out of fish, and well worth the crowds and the higher $ per pound of meat as opposed to purchasing it, then I'm at a loss. I wish this circus show bouncing betty crap was banned - for fishings sake.

This modern snag fishery CRAP is a disgrace to fisherman and fishing itself.

It's not fishing, it's not fun.. it's an abomination.

You wouldn't catch me DEAD doing that.

I have had my fair share of sockeye this year. I just dont understand why anyone would "catch and release them". Give another spot up for someone in the GONG SHOW. I definatly dont go there but its only reasonable. Evene at the spot I go to with the boats I see poeple "catch and release sockeye". WHY??? Take your fish and leave! Original poster has alot of great posts +1!!!!

Truthfully when i bought my tidal licence this year I had full intentions of sockeye harvesting thinking it would be a good year but I think jon5hill put it best and I have zero desire to partake in it and would really rather buy them from the market.

Because I live in Chilliwack, and the cost/reward ratio is extremely one sided (in my favor), I apprieciate this fishery. I have NOT however fished at Peg Leg this year. There are many quieter bars for me to fish at. If I lived in Vancouver, there is no way I'd drive out here for this...especially with stories of guys getting fish for less then 10 bucks each of the docks.

I hope you have a boat!  Otherwise you'd have to put in some serious hours trying to catch a Sockeye from shore in the Tidal portion of the Fraser.   ;D

Not sure if you were serious or joking, Ivan, but looks like they were a research group catching sockeye - not highgrading.  :)
