What makes you think that it will be the last opening for commercial?

I heard that rec sockeye will be open until Sept 19th.

From the latest official sockeye update, there is such a paragraph:

"Coho constraints such as the red zone closures in the Fraser River which start
Tuesday Sept 7 and the 3% exploitation rate limit will limit further
opportunities for Fraser sockeye."

What does this mean and does it mean some areas on the Fraser (where is the red zone?) will be closed to fishing starting Tuesday Sept 7?

from todays FN 774
(Coho constraints such as the red zone closures in the Fraser River which start
Tuesday Sept 7 and the 3% exploitation rate limit will limit further
opportunities for Fraser sockeye.)

sports should stay open unless coho are abused by beaching them and then releasing. so pay attention and if you see somebody with a coho tell them to release in the water.so far very few have entered the river.

DFO will soon implement measures to protect and conserve Thompson River coho. Usually its a bait ban and a request to selectively fish ( no flossing ) for socks. Look for a notice to be posted some time after Sept 06.  I heard that a few days ago that allegedly someone bonked a wild coho and a wild steelhead on a bar. Couple that tidbit with increasing catch #'s of coho and steelhead in test nets and it equals earlier implementation of coho protection measures

At 1 pm Friday at Steveston & near Gerry park & 2 miles down-river from there the SOCKS were jumping .
No matter where ya looked 5 fish jumped at the same time !!!
It was SO SO THICK with them...a sight worth seeing.
At Sandheads there was fish but they were not as thick as how they were up river.
(guess they came in the the tide push)
So many fish jumping "it was un-real"...seen it only once, one other time in that area ...aprox. 2004.
Still lots of Socks about !!1 ;)

Yesterday I caught a wild coho that was covered in net marks.  :-\

Very strange, as that would mean the equal amount of fish that have passed through in the past four weeks up the Fraser, would now be making their way up river very shortly. Interesting to see how DFO handles this in terms of closing the Sockeye fishery.

Is there any point in fishing Sand Heads with all the commercial boats that are out today (Monday)?
