Hi all,

I have a question about sockeye retention, but this could be applied to any salmon species.

I am planing on going out Friday after work from Burnaby to the bar in Chilliwack. Since it is a long ways, I was going to pitch my tent and hit it again the next morning.

I will be bringing the cooelr full of ice, and am hoping to get two sockeye Friday night, and two Saturday before heading back.

Question:

what if the conservation officer sees me walking out with 4 fish... technically I caught the frist two the day before, and the last two that morning/afternoon...

I don't think I have done anything wrong, but how woudl the officer know this?

Is this allowed?

Side question: How safe is it to leave a car (that really isn't work breaking in to) at Peg Leg?

Disclaimer: No bashing me for fishing there - It's my first year and it seems to accomodate my needs well enough for now!

That is exactly the plan I used earlier in the season except I stayed in a motel because a couple of other people were coming from out of town.

As long as you have a receipt for a motel or have your camping equipment in your car/truck, you should have no problem.

I am sure there are several vehicles that stay over night at Pegleg based on the number of campers and tents I saw there.
There is even a large motorhome parked at the entrance that has been there for several weeks.

Anyone have any feedback on the relative safety of leaving a car parked along the dirt entrance road overnight?

Personally I wouldn't leave the car there overnight.

Yes, I did read that thread, Thanks Rodney. I have never been to Gill road, so I don't know how they compare... I won't have a truck, so I would have to leave the car up top, and would be tenting down below.

Hi guys - new to the forum and just needing a bit of clarification.  If Andrew does get 4 fish - 2 on Friday pm and 2 Saturday am - is 4 the possession limit?  What happens if he fishes on Sunday am and gets 2 more?
The reason why I ask is some of us come down from Kelowna (interior) and it's a long way to come down for just two fish.  Clarification would help - Thanks

4 is the possession limit and you cannot have more than that travelling with you, therefore you wouldn't be able to keep more fish on Sunday if you keep your daily quotas on Friday and Saturday.

That, to me, is more of a "Theft of opportunity'.    With the volume of people traffic around (at seemingly all hours) it seems to be safer than many other places like the Vedder *cough*

if you bring 2 cars,1 person can take the 2 day limit back home for all of you.,and the others can stay and get 2 more days. you must have a note from the ow of the fish with fishing licence number and date taken stating you are transporting the fish for them home.

BUT if you throw two on the bbq saturday night then could you retain two more on Sunday?


On a side note - i assume the possession limits only apply to sport caught fish? So theoretically I could catch 2, buy 10 on the way home from Steveston Harbor and still be legal? How could I prove that to a CO - its not like any of these boats hand out receipts eh!

In that situation, you should ask for a receipt from the commercial sale. Otherwise, don't get into that situation because you'll be on the losing end when approached by Fishery officers.

As far as I know there is still a 2 day possession limit , which equals double what you can catch and retain in one day . By the next day the first fish will look not as fresh caught anymore and if you got camping gear with you or some sort of over night set-up you should be ok .
There is no 3 day possession limit .
As far as worrying about your car getting broken into over night , would you not wake up if you're right there with your car ?

Getting back ..............what time did he catch his second fish,was it Saturday or Sunday? What did you have with desert with the first dinner of the sockeye you cousumed on Wednesday? Please mam ..I know you are lying.......things just don't add up.
