Bait Ban on Fraser?
« on: September 10, 2010, 01:59:46 PM »

HI, I just came across this notice on another website: http://www.fishchilliwack.com/default.aspx?PAGE_ID=78   and it says that there is a bait ban for salmon on the non-tidal fraser (above Mission bridge) effective yesterday (September 9th) until October 12th.  Is this true? - is there a bait ban on the non-tidal porton of the Fraser?  And is there also a bait ban for salmon on the TIDAL portion of the Fraser (below the Mission bridge)? or does the bait ban only apply to the non-tidal portion of the Fraser?

Thanks in advance!

Bait ban is currently in effect in both tidal and non-tidal portions of the Fraser River.

thanks for the reply Rod...so, does the bait ban include not being allowed to use a piece of herring/anchovy on the belly of a Kwikfish while trolling for Chinook (and specifically targetting Chinook)?  And do scents qualify as bait as well?

in the US, it is illegal to add petroleum products like WD-40 or to water.  This includes dipping/spraying on baits.  It has nothing to do with the scent.

come to think of it, i actually have no source :-\ when i was growing up as a kid my grandfather always taught me that it was illegal to us it, and ive never really tried looking to see if it was illegal or not cause i believe my grandfather and im not gonna question him.

Sorry i shouldnt have posted that earlier post without showing facts, when i dont even have proof  :-[

you've never been allowed to use a peice of herring/anchovy in the Fraser for Salmon fishing.

the current bait ban hapends every year at this time.
