Fish ID?
« on: September 15, 2010, 08:24:02 AM »

Caught at Cultus Lake.  Looks alot like a Northern Pikeminnow but the golden sheen is throwing me off...  Saw one chrome floating sockeye while I was out.

It's a golden sproat... VERY rare in this part of Canada, I haven't seen one since I was a little kid!!!  Where on Cultus did you catch it?!?  You should take that picture to DFO!

Apparently they only reproduce once every 15 years, and give live birth instead of spawning eggs.

Ummmm I can't tell is you are joking or not....
Looks to me (from working up there all summer) like a spawning pikeminnow.
They go from a silver colour to a black or gold colour when getting close to the spawn or after just spawning. Looks like that one is recovering from a spawn.
