Favourite or best fishing line in your opinion
« on: September 25, 2010, 12:15:25 PM »

I personally go with those Big Game monofilament line. Wasn't the brand Trilene?
I still have trouble deciding between 15 or 17 lb test for main.  ::)

Maxima Ultra green hands down, the only downside is the stretch. But not a problem if your fishing smaller systems like the Vedder.

I bought 600 yards of this YO-ZURI HYBRID Fluorocarbon Fishing Line off ebay, so we will see how it performs, so far I've only really fished Maxima ultra green though, but I do not know too much about line -- what ever works for you, right?

Mainline: Tuff Line XP 50lb (will be testing out the 65lb version next time for added durablility).  Sometimes I will add a topshot of maxima or Gamma in clear conditions.

Leader: Maxima Ultragreen in various strengths and Gamm Edge Flourocarbon in 12lb test in low and clear conditions.  I prefer these lines for their stealthyness and strength especially the Gamma Edge as it is probably the best on the market in strength vs diameter.

Maxima ultra green has been my line of choice. I've never used braid as a main line for small river systems, paranoid of the fishing spooking at the sight of my line

big game for me only because its cheaper than maxima and as hard wearing on the rocky parts of the vedder .

Maxima Ultragreen is the benchmark IMHO.  I'll use 6 - 8 lb. for fly tippet in the Vedder for coho, depending on the water conditions.  I'll go up to 12 lb. for the Squish when the chums arrive.

For gear - again I'll use Maxima Ultragreen as my mainline (12 - 15 lb for the coho) and leader as per above.  If the water is clear, I like Seagar flurocarbon - 8 - 10 lb. for coho, but will go as low as 6 lb for spooky fish.  I find the Seagar is quite durable and have had better success with it (not breaking on large fish) than Maxima or P-Line fluorocarbon.  But that's just my experience...

Max. Chameleon on the CP and Max. Ultra Green on the BC.

I use the same. Also use ultragreen for my leader material. There may be better lines out there but it works for me so why mess with it.

Maxima Ultra green is the best by test. Used it for as long as i can remember, 40yrs now. Tried Seagur Flouro carbon line for leader material last yr for low and clear water conditions last and wont hesitate to use it again in those conditions!

I've been using Ande for some time.  I understand that it is made in the same factory as Maxima.  It seems to fish very similarily for stiffness and abrasion resistance but it's less expensive when bought in the 1/4 lb spool.  If not available, Maxima all the way.
