I did not get an early start and fished a couple of spots around Peach Road including the Thursday hole with no success but I did see others with some. Sort of got fed up as having a hard time the last few trips even getting a good bite although the fish are around but it can be difficult getting them to take roe when they are moving in the higher flows.
After getting some chores done I went to fish the tide in the Canal area. On arrival where I parked the Leaf Mobile a truck was there but it's driver's side window was down. When I reached the area I was going to fish I asked the first angler if it was his truck and he said it was. I told him the window was down on his truck. He said he did not leave it down so he hustled back to see if someone had broken in but I had seen no broken glass on the ground.
I decided to go back and move the Leaf Mobile to a more secure spot. The chap was gone so I did not find out if some thieves had struck once again. These chaps are around as I know Gwyn's truck was hit a few days ago around the Boulder Hole, so keep your eyes open and leave little of value in your vehicles. Boy it would be nice to get these thugs that spoil our fishing trips.
I fished for an hour but even with fish moving in on the tide I had nothing to show for it, I saw a chap with a blade take a coho jack.
I decided to go for a break and take some bottles to the depot.
On the way out it was nice to meet Mike and Chris who said they had some jack action but were to finding it tough to get some adult fish to have a go at the roe they were using. They were going for some lunch and would be coming back.
I stopped at Ernie's and he gave me some fresh roe as maybe my year old roe was the problem but had not been in the past seasons.
With $36 of bottles returned, back to the Canal for the evening bite, hopefully.
I some times pack a bucket to pick up garbage in and when the old pins get tired I use it to sit on and cast away, don't laugh, one day you will be there too.
Anyway the Maple Leaf DNE dips and I set the hook hard, so hard I tumble off the bucket and only by getting my arm down it prevented me from flopping into the 2 feet of water but my arm gets soaking wet.
I look round to see if anyone saw my performance.Things are going from bad to worse and most likely the strike was just a smolt anyway as there is plenty of the bait robbing chaps around.
As darkness closes in a few fish are surfacing and a couple od anglers in a boat anchored below me with connect with a good sized fish, a coho or chinook salmon. They were throwing blades.
Disgusted and cold from my near swim I head home for a fish dinner as it seems that is the closest I am getting to a fish these days, thanks for having a freezer to fish a fish out of when things are tough at the river for your truly.
Off to the river shortly, maybe a better adventure today, where is my Maple Leaf pullover? Yes that's the problem.
