bull trout??? skagit??? O.O
« on: October 09, 2010, 12:05:24 PM »

I have seen on a lot of websites saying that there are "Bull Trout" in the Skagit river.
IS THERE REALLY? I have been there like, 15 times, catching only rainbow trout.
If there is, could you show me a photo of you holding a bull trout at skagit?

THANKS,

There are definitely bull trout in the skagit. I've caught them using steelhead streamers. Look for deep slow moving pools.

Take a peak on my blog, a few posts down is a little on the bull trout.  If you are paying attention you should be able to actually see bull trout in most pools, often in large schools.

Most of Rick's fish are from the popular lower river access points from what I can see in the photos.

Thanks pencil.  I caught this one just south of the Sumallo Grove in Manning Park.  I've talked to Rick and he goes down around the Nepopekum day use area. I was just there last week, saw a few in pools but they weren't in the mood to be caught. :-[

there are many bulls in that system. Just do some walking and find runs from 5 to 6 feet deep. i have had success in the tail outs of deeper runs to. They almost always hit on the a slow but steady strip in. use a type 6 sink tip and you will get them. white and olive colour streamers and large nymphs worked best for me.
most of the bulls i posted on the fish porn thread are from skagit.
good luck.

those bulls get absolutely mangled....lots of guys target them and hook the same ones over and over.
