Broken rod tip
« on: October 12, 2010, 04:54:46 PM »

Alright so the tip of my rod snapped today just past the second guide this afternoon. TrophyXL rod, so question is does anyone have experience with the warranty for these products? I may be screwed either way as I don't have a detAiled receipt from the shop I purchased it from. Just a dollar total. Can a break like this be repaired? Or should I be looking for a new rod?
Thanks

WOW... you are just falling apart out there.... :-\

I would honestly either contact trophy xl directly or take back to the shop you bought it from. Trophy is a fairly big company and should stand behind their product, considering it's a fairly new rod I assume

I've played the "incredible shrinking rod" game before.  Lost 6" - put a new tip on and barely noticed.  Lost another foot and threw it in the garbage.  With a fly rod, I took it into the shop where I bought it to see if they would let me buy a new top half.  They gave me a new one and sent in the broken rod with the warranty card from the new one.

I hope for your sake you broke the tip on a fish!

It doesn't really sound like it can be fixed. There should be a warranty, was the receipt the only one they gave you?

Do you still have the broken tip ? If so bring it to Brian Ford at West Coast Tackle. He can fix it by putting a sleave on. He fixed by fenwick by adding a sleave.

ChromeKings I hear you! I too am thankful for shopping at Highwater! I had a Trophy tip go missing out of the back of my truck and Dave at Highwater worked his angle with Trophy and got a free replacement for me... Vancook, Searun should be able to work some majic through Trophy and get you a new tip either warranty or a small fee...

Vancook, this happened to my trophy XL royale last year... Don't ask... :D.  I bought the rod at Pacific Angler over a year before it broke and when I brought it back in, Jason Tonelli had a new tip sent in free of charge.  I bet Searun would be able to do the same, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Just take it back to sea run they will get you a new tip section in no time there maybe a charge for the new tip but it will be very reasonable. Any local shop that sells trophy rods will be able to get it taken care of for you in case sea run is out of your way.

I busted 2 Trophy rods the same way as above multiple break spots its like they just explode ....anyways that rod should have a one year warranty the shop I got mine from replaced it on the spot.

I once lost the tip off a rod and took it to Fred's. Fred had a bunch of rod pieces ( tips and handles etc ) in the back of the store and he matched it up for me free-of-charge.
