I vote for Howard also. Big fishes lurk in the channel between the two lake sections. Look at a chart and you will see the drop off just before the far lake section. I watched some local folks troll deep a super sized blackish bunny leech. Ka bamm. I was so impressed. they were howling too. I hooked some and they got off ? Maybe next time. Watch the road in. There are about 11 small washout creek cuts in the road to allow for excess run off.
I pulled a couple 5 lbers out this year but nothing bigger than that. Those big fish your talking about are few and far between now, but lots in the 2 to 3 lb range. The lake suffered extreme winter kill for a few years , but seems to be making a great comeback. I consider the far west end {past the Island } basically a desert, compared to the rest of the lake. I have caught fish to 7 lbs { all on the fly} in all areas of this lake over the past few years, and will continue to make it a plan for some of my holidays. Nice scenery, and the biggest resident Golden Eagle I've ever seen. People call him "Howie"......go figure
By the way, the road was in great shape, and the small washout creek cuts aren't bad, just necessary. You can still make it in with any RV, no problem at all.
