Lafarge Broodstock Catch of the YEAR!!!
« on: November 13, 2010, 07:24:16 PM »

Was fishing at Lafarge today and couldn't believe what striked my fly !!! HUGE 6LB RAINBOW TROUT!!!
The brood didn't fight that much , but was a little harder to pull in then normal and there heavy so i gotta have loose drag as i found out the hard way when.... right after i caught that one ,  I  starting catching broods left and right and at one point i had  two broods on two rods at the same time but the first one snap the line instantly and the second had a little battle with me to the boat and then just as im about to net the fish it decides to take off when i have my drag on tight and SNAP!!!  BYE BYE FISH!! Then 90 min later i had another brood on and pretty much the same story.. SNAP!!
LOL what a day at lafarge EH!!

I caught a 6 pounder a few days ago.  It ACTUALLY tastes pretty good.  The flesh is pink-red, not beige like the little ones!   It tastes much, much better - like a pink salmon.  (Not the best I know...   but much better than the usual stockers).  It didn't taste muddy or anything.   Oh yes, I did bleed it after I landed it.   Maybe that accounts for the better taste also.

The fight only lasted about 20 seconds, then it gave up easily.   I had no net and had to beach her (she still had a bit on roe in her when I gutted her).

While you were quoting, you probably should read the whole post  :-\

the first one snap the line instantly and the second had a little battle with me to the boat

As long as he was in the boat alone, there is no problem with using two rods.

I think you'd have more fun catching a small twig or stick in a river than reeling in one of those ole' broodies...haha.

Should we be killing brood-stocks or releasing them so more people can experience catching a large trout close to home. I think the answer is pretty obvious,am I wrong?

Nope I agree. Catching them would be more fun ( and probably wont cause you to puke )

Well maybe recommend this this the fishery's.... Rod has a topic here that would apply....

I eat farmed beef, chicken, lamb.... can't say I'd expect farmed trout would taste much different. That said I still haven't tried one yet, LOL.
