 i like the shimano convergence line of rods... great bang for the buck.

the compres are very nice also but if you really want to spend some money try to get a ultra light shimano crucial

I have quite a few spinning rods from ultralight to medium, which I use quite frequently. Some I prefer more than others after trying them out for a few years. My favourite ultralight spinning rod right now is Daiwa's Spinmatic SMC 662ULFS (rated 2 to 6lb test). I usually use it in lakes for rainbow trout, Tidal Fraser River for cutthroat, bull trout, pikeminnow and peamouth chub. I've also used it at St Mary Lake for smallmouth bass. Last month I hooked a coho salmon while targeting bull trout with it, managed to land it as well.

It is a Shimano Twinpower (not available in North America unless purchased from Europe and Asia via Ebay etc).

Bargain at $49.99 + tax.  Great little rod - I have the 9ft stronger version - very gentle tip to allow fish to turn then enough lower backbone to set the hook.
