Ruskin Dam & Powerhouse Upgrade
« on: December 15, 2010, 09:20:25 AM »

Received this from FOC this morning.

Thanks for your note and interest in the project. Enclosed is a copy of the recent project newsletter and a link to the Ruskin Project web page fyi.  We are currently in the process of developing a construction management plan for the project and held a workshop on November 24th to get input on potential mitigation measures (including options to mitigate closure of the Ruskin Picnic site).  This is the meeting that Glen attended.  Vince Busto has also been involved in discussions about the Ruskin project and was part of a meeting last April which discussed the recreation site closure as well as other fisheries related issues.  We are continuing to develop the construction management plan and would appreciate any thoughts or input you might have.

We are planning another public information session in late January or early February to provide an update on the project and share where we are at in terms of the construction management plan.  Please let me know if you would like to be added to list to receive regular updates on the Ruskin Project.

Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions or would like to set up a meeting to discuss the project in more detail.

Yours truly,

Jane

I attended the November 24th workshop. There were no representatives from the sport fishing community so took it upon myself to undertake that role despite being there on business. I spoke at lengths with Jane and she seemed legitimately concerned with the implications that this project would have on the Stave River sport fishery.

Just so everyone knows, there will be no access to the east side of the river. The Ruskin Dam Recreation Area will be closed down and no river access will be permitted. This issue will compound the existing parking issues along the west side of the river along Wilson St.

The website for BC Hydro that Chris posted has "We would like to hear from you" link. I would recommend sending them an E-mail for improved parking for people fishing. I sent them one.
