On the river by first light, starting up top, lining up with the other bears on the river bank.
No love after a few hours short floating jigs, and roe with wool. Decided to head down river to Lickman
after a quick Timmies visit...Mmmmcofffeeee.
Got to Lickman around noon, 20 minutes of floating row bags and wool, and my float went down in some ripple on the upsteam side of a gravel bar.
It took a run or two, but I held it in place, while I walked down the river reeling in at the same time, holding it, so I could get it in some slack water for a proper ID, and some clown in front of me on the bank decides to stay in place just watching me while I move to get out along side of the fish (its in front and a couple feet down stream of him)
The fish is in a slot on the other side of a bar which ends about 3 or feet past him, with another slot that runs along the shore. I want to get the fish past the bar, and pull it around the end so I don't pull it across the gravel. The guy doesn't move, the fish runs into the bar, does a head shake, and pops the hook, craaaap!!!!
He looks up to me and says "You should have just just horsed it in over the bar and onto the shore."
I just didn't didn't know what to say to him, I was literaly at a complete loss for words. First fish of the season on, and lost because i couldn't get around this guy quick enough to guide the fish in properly. What the heck is wrong with some of these guys? Yeah, that's a great idea, yank a possible wild across the rocks, and up on the shore, injuring its self flopping around on the rocks. Disappointing for sure, not landing the fish, and running into someone so clueless I didn't think it was possible. Sorry for venting, but if someone is bringing a fish in, don't stand in the way like a light post.
But on the bright side, it was a fantastic day out, sunny, crisp, and the river had a couple feet of visibility.
NEXT TIME!!!!
