There is a sizeable pond (lake) in these wetlands within the regional park.     Does it contain bass?   Is fishing permitted?

Cheam Lake, Cheam Creek and Bridal Creek are closed to fishing under the Fisheries Act and Regional Parks Bylaw.

"The ponds were accidentally stocked with rainbow trout that escaped from a private fish farm.  Fishing can be surprisingly good in the spring and fall, but usually only for knowledgeable fly casters fishing out of float tubes."

There is absolutely no reason for that waterbody to be closed to fishing.   Makes me mad just thinking about it.
It was open for a short time several years ago. I can still remember hooking on to those rainbow hogs when they were 'accidently' released....not to mention I hooked and landed some of my biggest 'local' cutties ever.
I didn't know they had closed it when it happend and they built a walkway on the water....so one day after fishing another body of water, I stopped there to take a look. When I noticed the walkway, I grabbed my trout rod and put on a 'kroc', cast out about 100 feet and hooked a 23 inch cutthroat on the first cast. The fish in there are huge....tonnes of feed, and even though the cutties were moody at times, I would always land a couple of trophies.

Again....a crying shame to close down such an awesome local float tube fishery.

Check the pictures and I think many will agree that it is just nice to leave it as it presently is, a non fishing area.

Besides there is plenty of other areas for us to fish in and it is one water course area that is free of garbage that so many of our recreational fishing areas are so polluted with, left by many uncaring users as well as fishers too.

Chris. Something tells me you never had the joy to fish this water....because if you had, you'd probably share the thoughts of so many others that were furious when it closed down.
I can assure you that you will not find such a gem of a cutthroat fishery anywhere near as close to Chilliwack as Cheam wetlands...and if there is cutthroat in any body of water in the LM....I've fished it.
Cheam Wetlands is a cutthroat fishery in a class by itself.

No I never did but I have visited the area a few times and got much enjoyment from the serenity of the area as well as the wildlife that frequent the area.

Im with you on this one Chris..Really now do we have to fish every single piece of water to death! Let the trout live and grow and flourish in undisturbed waters unpolluted by tim horton coffee cups and fishing line everywhere.
